More on programmer time
I know it's probably a dead horse, but does anyone think my analysis of how some or even most coders spend their time is on target?
Do you believe your management understands what you are doing on a day to day basis?
Is it worth worrying about if you have a job and are getting paid okay? I hear a lot of folks say, hey, it all pays the same. What do you think? Does it matter to you what you do everyday?
Enough on that tonight,

Does my manager know what I do? Apparently not. Today my teammate told our vice president that we pair (program) "all the time."
"Not all the time," said our manager, "just a few hours a day."
That's just not true. It's usually six to seven hours per day which is more than "a few."
My performance appraisal from last year was supposedly mostly based on the effort of just a few days, mostly clerical work. Hey, I like a fat raise as much as the next guy, but...
I've heard from others that this is not uncommon in my organization. Our management is clueless.
