Can't believe any church condones this...

Article: Hundreds expected to come to a Masturbate-a-thon

Nothing graphic or anything to worry about in the article if you've already read the title.

Basically Marie Stopes International, an organization providing sexual and reproductive health information and services, has been staging this type of event in San Francisco for six years. It's a fund raiser as well as to raise awareness for HIV/AIDS.

The expected number of participants is about 200. Individuals must be over 18.

What gets me most about the article is this statement:
"The Marie Stopes spokeswoman said local religious groups had been initially outraged, but after people had heard what the event was about, most had approved it."

Focusing on the fact that most churches preach against masturbation or self-pleasuring. You might ask why. The simple answer is that sexual and mental energy are being directed at a fantasy, an erotic fantasy no doubt, one that involves lust, and it is believed not directed desire for your committed partner. It is seen as a form of idol worship or self-worship.

You be the judge. Several of my friends are Catholic and Baptist leaning folks, both of which groups openly preach against mastrubation, when the topic has to come up.

Anyway, you be the judge.

(no apologies for no jokes on this one)
