Article: St. Charles Co. home costs outstrip income, report says By Jonathan Rivoli, St. Louis Post Dispatch online

The article describes something we in all of the greater St. Louis area are painfaully aware, the cost of housing is rising faster than incomes. One of the main points homes for single-families are up 41% from 2000 to 2005. That's an amazing amount.

I don't know about you, but my income certainly didn't go up that much. Mentioned is an average income increase of between 2.5 to 4 percent per year. Yeah right! Maybe at some large companies that's normal, but at many smaller companies, especially sole proprietor types, there are no raises to be had.

It's a good little summary article, of a situation we know all too well. No mention is made of any solutions, but lament is made at the lack of affordable housing projects. Gee, small wonder with the city zoning for quarter million dollar and above house neighborhoods.

Well, when my income increases at 10% one year, I'll be sure to consider buying a new house.

Till then..
