SXSW 2007 Showcasing Artists

To quote from ben m online:

"Like last year (and maybe the years before that), the SXSW (South by Southwest) festival has made a torrent file available for the music of the bands that will be performing (the SXSW 2007 Showcasing Artists). The file will let you download a folder that has 739 mp3s and is 3.1 GB. It’s huge, but a perfectly legit way to get exposed to new music. Plus you can listen to all the music for almost 2 complete days straight without having to listen to any commercials or pledge drives."

Let me just say I have to agree with his comment about 2 days and up that one or three more. Just to skim this huge volume of MP3s might take you an afternoon. The music covers just about every genre from rap to country.

In all seriousness, the variety is amazing. Ben goes onto make some other positive comments in his blog about finding favorites. I've only just skimmed the songs and I've already picked out several to add to my regular playlist.

You're The Kind of Trouble by The Wrights
From The Pasture To The Future by The Waybacks
Joy by Temposhark
Why Don't Ya by Shawn Sahm and the Tex-Mex Experience
Far Side of Nowhere by Onion Creek Crawdaddies
Green Mills Blues by Mike Jones
Hardcore Hornography by Michelle Shocked
Mama Said by White Ghost Shivers
Try by Sparkle Motion

I absolutely got a laugh and a smile out of the group names. My winner for most potentially offensive name: Steaming Wolf Penis. That sort of speaks for its self.

I strongly encourage those interested in widening their experience of music to download this collection post haste.

You can download the torrent here.

Wishing you good listening,
Tojosan
